Like many students my age, I decided I needed an internship this summer. Enthusiastically I went along to my Universities internship fair on the look out for a a startup with a brilliant idea. Out of all the stands I perused, “whym” caught my attention the most. whym is a brilliant smartphone app that gives anybody who might get into language trouble abroad, access to a live professional interpreter with a few taps of the app. I have since starting interning at the company, as I truly believe in this product and what it can offer the travelling community.
My appreciation for what whym offers comes from the relatively extensive travelling experiences I have had to date. Combining my own personal experiences, as well as stories I know from friends, I can recall many a time when whym would have come in handy when abroad and unable to speak the language.
Most solo travellers would agree that one of the biggest concerns they have is ending up in a country alone, in urgent need of help but unable to speak the local language. The stresses and vulnerabilities of being a lone traveller are heightened when faced with a major crisis.
whym is an app that can act like your multilingual friend, ready instantly to offer language assistance at any time, day or night.
